The Review: Sex and violence: seems like it would be a winner. However, it turns out to be the under-belly of the sex trade and ultra-violence: 'tis a loser. Clockwork Orange was a walk in the park by comparison. Nicholas Cage, a private investigator specializing in uncovering "private affairs" with extreme discretion, gets offered carte blanche to determine if what appears to be a snuff film, really is. You watch him crawling deeper and deeper into the mire and wonder, why? Unremittingly dark (both in mood and in lighting) and eventually overwhelming; a cloudy, if straightforward, plot.
