The Review: I liked the first Austin Powers movie; I really did. Fresh, bizarre, silly, occasionally evocative: a good solid sitcom. But this one? No thanks. A little bit of Mike Meyers goes a very long way, and with (at times) four of him on stage -- Dr. Evil, Fat Bastard, Austin Powers, and Austin Powers from 10 minutes from now -- an overdose happens much too easily. Gag.
This is another episode in the life and (rather mixed up) times of Austin Powers, groovy super-spy from the 60's who has become a corpsicle to save the future. The premise and the props are the same, and if they are not explained, they provide an undercurrent of giggles from those "in the know." This time our valiant superhero battles Dr. Evil, throws off inane double entendres like sparks, and chases or is chased by numerous attractive young women. Sound familiar? It is all too familiar, but at least his teeth are in better shape than the last time around. Tiresome and stupid, even for someone who lived through and enjoyed the first foray.
