The Review: Romantic drama alternating between Chicago and the Carolina coast (although obviously filmed in Maine). Robin Wright Penn is a divorced reporter who stumbles, almost literally, on the title object while on vacation. Kevin Costner is the widowed shipwright she discovers while tracking down the source of the message. Sparks fly. Paul Newman steals the show as Costner's father, a curmudgeon with a heart. Come to think of it, that also describes Costner's character; perhaps it requires a superb actor, or perhaps he just plays himself. Based on the best-seller.
