The Review: A re-make of the 1968 Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway vehicle. This time around, the caper is a pair of technically brilliant art thefts from the NYC Metropolitan Museum by the eponymous acquisitions broker (Brosnan). Giving chase is Rene Russo as an extremely persistent insurance investigator, and Denis Leary as the primary NYC detective assigned to the case. Faye Dunaway is to be found in this version, looking good as Brosnan's psychiatrist.
The chemistry between Brosnan and Russo is electric, and Russo's almost continual sly grin adds to her appeal (not to mention how sexy she, and her dresses, are). She suspects Brosnan almost from the outset, and pursues him with dogged abandon; in several senses, the pursuit is reciprocal.
Apologies, but since I have not seen the original, I cannot compare this with the 1968 version. But this one certainly stands on its own. A good romp.
