The Review: Character study, with a detour towards romantic comedy and a touch of drama, returns on track as a character study of (in the words of one of the characters) the curse of a functional family. Dennis Quaid (middle-aged ad exec Dan Foreman) exercises his wry smile and worried father-of-too-many-daughters look, and Topher Grace (the up and coming hot-shot Carter Duryea) does the same with his caffeine-overdosed boyish grin, as a corporate takeover arranges that the inexperienced latter becomes the boss of the experienced former. The generation gap threatens to become a skirmish in outright generation war, as Foreman's daughter (Johansson) roams the DMZ between them.
Rated downward because it gets off to a very slow, and tending toward boring, start. Good ensemble cast with a warm fuzzy undertone, and somewhat predictable situations & resolutions.
