The Review: Clever animation about a ceiling fan who falls in love with an unusual potted plant. At once both a romance and a tragedy, what's particularly intriguing is not only the genetic diversity displayed, but its dynamics. Very simple and compelling animation style with narration. This is biological imagination to watch out for.
This animated short feature was shown in conjunction with a circulating retrospective of the 2005 Academy Award nominees, but was itself not a nominee (it was substituted when the fifth and final nominee, One Man Band, was pulled by Pixar because of its immanent release on the big screen). Other nominees included Jasper Morello, Badgered, Moon and the Son, and the exceptional 9.
