The Review: Alleged to be martial artist Jet Li's last action film, Fearless is an homage to, and semi-mythical biography of, one of China's cultural and martial arts heroes: Huo Yuan-Jia. Rising from a small village and a family with a heritage of ritual fighting, he attempts to redress his father's humiliation, grows through the annoying and fulsome bully stage, and eventually establishes and chairs an international organization to standardize, promote and gain credibility for his style of competitive combat.
Spectacular fights choreographed by venerable master Yuen Wu Ping, who has lent his hand to many Chinese and Hong Kong films over the years, as well as designed confrontations for Kill Bill and the Matrix trilogy.
(Not to be confused with Peter Weir's 1993 Fearless.)
