The Review: A possibly medieval town square; a one-man band; a cute peasant child on an errand; another competing one-man band; and a single gold coin. Another quirky, clever and quite funny short animated feature from Pixar. Almost as good as Birds on a Wire.

This was one of the 2005 Academy Award nominees for animated short feature, but it was not released in a retrospective cluster with the others for art-house viewing, perhaps because (as I can now understand) Pixar had other plans -- as a short leader for its animated Cars, only just released. Other 2005 nominees in this category included Jasper Morello, Badgered, Moon and the Son, and the exceptional 9.
