The Review: Classic tragedy with a Russian twist, based on the Hans Christian Andersen tale. Standard cel-based animation, soft-edged, soft-focus and almost monochrome; well done artistry, depressing story.

One of the 2006 Academy Award nominees for animated short feature; others included Danish Poet, Maestro and No Time for Nuts. Other animated short features (screened at the same time) that qualified or were shortlisted for Oscar nomination included One Rat Short, The Passenger, The Wraith of Cobble Hill, Guide Dog and Gentlemen's Duel.
