Best (and the Worst) of 2010
At the end of each calendar year, I summarize those movies that I rated "++" or "+1/2", so you can see how far off my selections were when you compare this with the 2011 winners of the (83rd) Academy Awards. My list includes films formally released in 2010 -- qualifying for Oscar nomination -- but on the calendar it happens to include those I actually caught in 2010 as well as a few that I didn't get to view until early 2011 (because of late releases or sheer laziness). Surprisingly, only three come from the "end of the year" run-up to Academy qualification. Remember, these are my personal highlights of the year -- no doubt your opinion will differ.
Continuing last year's practice, underneath the "best" I'm also citing the worst of the worst -- those movies that I rated "-" or below. Luckily, there were only a few such examples of absolute trash! At least my "worst" list doesn't happen to include any Oscar-nominations (unlike last year, which included District 9).
